CULTURE CORNER “LEGOLAND CALIFORNIA”

TYPE: SUMMARISING THE MATERIAL

FORM: GROUP WORK COMPETITION (4 groups of 4 pupils)

PRE-WORK: WEB-QUEST “LEGOLAND CALIFORNIA”



INTRUDUCTION.

  1. Greeting.

  2. Questions about the dates, type of weather and topic of the lesson.

What date is it today? What date was it yesterday? What date will it be tomorrow?
What’ the weather like today?

STEP 1. THE HISTORY OF LEGO

  1. Have you ever played LEGO? (ask some pupils)

  2. Raise your hands who has played LEGO (pupils raise their hands)

  3. Who has never played LEGO?

Let’s look at the information that you found about the LEGO group history? (open the link in WEB-QUEST, section PROCESS)

Task to the groups- read the answers:

  1. Who created LEGO? Ole Kirk Kristiansen created LEGO.

  2. When did he create LEGO? He created LEGO in 1932.

  3. What were the first LEGO bricks made of? They were made of wood.

  4. What does the word LEGO mean? The word LEGO means “PLAY WELL” from the Danish “LEG GODT”

Evaluation: each group puts a brick of its colour at the bottom on the blackboard.

STEP 2. WELCOMING VIDEO ACTIVITY

  1. What is LEGOLAND?

  2. Have you ever gone there?

  3. Would you like to go there someday?

You watch a welcoming video about LEGOLAND CALIFORNIA. While our guest are watching this video you have to do the tasks.

Tasks to the groups- choose a word or a word combination and finish the phrases you get. These phrases describe those activities that we can do while visiting LEGOLAND CALIFORNIA.

Appendix 1. Evaluation : each group puts a brick of its colour in the second line.

STEP 3. HOW DO YOU KNOW THE WORDS

One of the task in WEB-QUEST was to read and translate the text LEGOLAND CALIFORNIA taken from your Student’s books. There are some useful words which you should pronounce correctly and know their translation while working with the text.

Tasks - pronounce the following words correctly and give their translation.

Pupils pronounce the words together and give the translation in a chain.

STEP 4. READING

Let’s listen to the text once again. After that you should be ready to read it aloud.

Task 1- each of you gets a sentence from the text and reads it.

Task 2- you get the text and should fill the gaps with the right form of the words.

Avaluation: each group puts 2 bricks of its colour in the fourth line.

STEP 6. GRAMMAR ADVERT

Task- look at the section ATTACTIONS and make up sentences with the construction MAKE SURE YOU HAVE +3 form the verb to advertise LEGOLAND.

Evaluation: each group puts 1 brick of its colour in the sixth line.



STEP 7. DIALOGUES

Task – you get the parts of a dialogue which you should put in their right places. Then act the dialogue with your neighboring group.

Evaluation: each group puts 1 brick of its colour in the seventh line.



RESULTS. Look at the blackboard and your LEGO SUCCESS WALL. What is the best group today?
