Do you know this girl? What is her name? Where was the girl two years ago? What did she do in London? Did she enjoy the trip? What questions did she ask you?

  • What else do you know about England?

  • What other English speaking countries do you know?

  • What country would you like to visit and why?

So, what do you think about the theme of our lesson today? What are we going to speak about today? English speaking countries.

And Olesya’s questions will be the plan of our lesson.

Let’s start with the first question: What else do you know about the UK?

First of all, who can show the UK on the map?

The flag of the UK is called the Union Jack. It consists of three crosses: the national flags of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

What are the first words you remember of when thinking about Great Britain?

What places of interest are there in London?

What can you say about the climate of the UK?

What are the main English cities? (Oxford, Cambridge, Manchester, Stratford-upon-Avon, Liverpool, Brighton)

What are the symbols of Wales? (the Red Dragon and a daffodil)

Who is the patron saint of Wales? (Saint David)

What is the national game of Wales? (Rugby)

Why does Northern Ireland have one of the best gardening climates in the world?

Scotland is the most northern part of Great Britain. What is it famous for?

We can tell people about the UK a lot. We have read and learned a lot of interesting information about this country. But of course, that is not all. Now it is time to get more information about the UK. On your desks you have working sheets with tasks. The first one is reading. Let’s do it.

It was all about the UK.

I think, we have answered the first Olesya’s question very well.

Who remembers the second Olesya’s question? (What other English speaking countries do you know?)

  • Canada Who can show Canada on the map?

  • The USA Who can show the USA on the map?

  • New Zealand Who can show New Zealand on the map?

  • Australia Who can show Australia on the map?

Let’s remember all the information we know about this countries. There are the names of the English speaking countries on the blackboard. And on my desk I have a lot of small sheets with the words. You have to take the card with the word, to make up a sentence with this word and decide what country it belongs to. Is it clear to you? I will be the first. I will show how to do this task.

OK, well done. What do you think, what do all these countries have in common? If we look at the blackboard attentively, we see that it is the English language, which all these countries have in common.

And as we know, English is spoken not only in these five countries, but also people all over the world speak English because English nowadays is the language of the international communication. And famous persons and ordinary people from our country Russia are not an exception. We study and speak English too. Look at the screen, please, and you see, that I am right. (видео на английском).

We have seen, that Russian politicians, celebrities, sportsmen, showmen speak English. But why do people study English nowadays or why should people study English nowadays? At home you had to think over this problem, to make up the dialogues and to discuss the reasons for studying English. Now it’s time to check up your home task. I’ll give you some minutes to look through your dialogues and then we’ll start.

  • Did you like the dialogues?

  • What reasons have the boys (the girls) mentioned in their dialogues?
