презентация Академический отпуск в Украине (английский язык)

The topic of my presentation is a gap-year-type experience in Ukraine.

A gap year is time out to travel between life stages. It is also known as a sabbatical taken between high school and college. During this gap-year, students engage in extra-academic and non-academic courses, language studies, volunteer work, travel, internships, sports and more, all for the purpose of improving themselves and their resumes before going to college.

The practice of taking time out developed in the United Kingdom in the 1960s. During this time, a student might travel, engage in volunteer work overseas or undertake a working holiday abroad.

The present attitude among young people in Ukraine towards taking a gap year As far as I know from newspapers of Ukraine, in 2013 only 322000 of school leavers continued their education while in 2012 400000 of school leavers continued their education. The quantity of entrants becomes less. I think, that taking a gap year is not so popular in our country, because it is difficult to find a good job, not all school leavers have an opportunity just to be at home and travell a lot, because it is very expensive for our people.

Near the small town of Kanev the monument to the Ukrainian national genius Taras Shevchenko is situated. One may come to Poltava and visit the museum of the famous Poltava battle, the field where Peter the Great defeated the Swedes. One may also go to Zaporizhia, to the island of Khortytsia, where the Ukrainian Cossacks’ organization was born. One can go to Odesa and walk along the boulevards, where Pushkin walked a long time ago, and one can touch the trees, which Pushkin touched.
