A. American sport would not be the same without Yankee Stadium. But did you know that there has been not one Yankee Stadium but two? They started building the first one in 1922 and it opened to the public in 1923. Located in the Bronx, an area of New York City, it had seating for over 56,000 spectators. Over the years, the stadium hosted some of the twentieth century’s most exciting baseball games, but it also hosted other major sporting events like boxing and football.

Opened in 2009, the new Yankee Stadium looked very similar to its older relative. The pitch was the same size, but the seats were more comfortable for modern sports fans. Surprisingly, the new stadium only has seating for about 48,000 fans, almost 8,000 less than the old stadium. On the plus side, a huge new state-of-the-art screen allows the fans furthest from the action to see everything that’s happening on the pitch.

D.Yankee Stadium isn’t just for sports fans, though. There’s a picnic area, a farmers’ market with fresh fruit and vegetables, and quite a few gift shops to pick up a souvenir. Guided tours offer the chance to learn about the history of the stadium, and you might be allowed into the areas the public usually don’t get to see like the changing rooms.
