Prepositional object

There are often prepositions in relative clauses, and the relative pronoun is the OBJECT of the preposition. This means that the preposition can sometimes be omitted. The preposition is normally placed at the end of the relative clause(except for WITHOUT): - Is that man(who) you arrived with? - Do you know the girl (that) John is talking to? That is the man without whom we'll get lost. (NOT. the man whom we'llget lost without). In formal or written English, the preposition is often placed before the relative pronoun, and in this case the pronoun cannot be omitted: - The person with whom he is negotiating is the Chairman of a large comany. - It is a society to which many important people belong. Предложное косвенное дополнение может быть выражено: 1. Существительным с предлогом: We spoke about our work. he lives with his pearents. 2. Местоимением с предлогом: He spoke to me yesterday. I agree with you. 3. Герундием с предлогом: I am fond of reading. He insists on doing it himself. При наличии прямого дополнения предложное косвенное дополнение стоит после прямого: I have received a letter from my sister. I spent a lot of money on books.
