Mrs Read:

Hi, Liz. Hi, Mike.

Liz and Mike:

Hello, Mrs Read.

Mrs Read:

Where were you last summer? Liz, were you at summer camp?

Liz:

No, I wasn’t.

Mrs Read:

Were you in town?

Liz:

No, I wasn’t.

Mrs Read:

Where were you?

Liz:

I was at the seaside.

Mrs Read:

Was it good?

Liz:

Yes, it was very good.

Mrs Read:

Mike, were you at the seaside too?

Mike:

No, I wasn’t.

Mrs Read:

Were you abroad?

Mike:

No, I wasn’t.

Mrs Read:

Where were you, Mike?

I was in the mountains. It was great.

I was in the country. It was fantastic!

UNIT 2.

LESSON 5.

Exercise 2b.

Elfin:

Yesterday we went to the “Funland” amusement park. Liz took me there. It was cool!

First, we went on the merry-go-round. That was fast! We didn’t go on the big wheel.

I don’t like it. I like riding ponies! So I rode a pony and we went to the gift shop.

Liz bought a lovely teddy bear. Then we played on the swings. That was fun but I got dizzy very soon. We were tired and hungry.

So we went to the café. We had pizza and orange juice.

That was my best weekend!

LESSON 6.

Exercise 2a

Reporter:

Hi everyone. Today Alex, Maria, Jacob and Emma from Class 5 will answer my questions about their best day out.

Hi, Alex! Where did you go on your best day out?

Alex:

I went to the circus.

Reporter:

Who did you go there with?

Alex:

I went there with my little brother and sister.

Reporter:

When did you go to the circus?

Alex:

We went to the circus last Saturday.

Reporter:

What did you see there?

Alex:

We saw clowns and animals. I liked the bears and the horses.

Reporter:

Why did you like them?

Alex:

The bears rode bicycles and the horses were very beautiful.

Reporter:

Thank you, Alex. Now, Maria. Please tell us about your best day out.

Maria:

My best day out was at the seaside. It was on the last weekend in August. My aunt and uncle took me there. It wasn’t very warm, so I didn’t swim in the sea. I played in the sand. Then I went on the rides. I ate popcorn and drank coca cola. I liked the day at the seaside because I had a lot of fun there.

Reporter:

Thank you, Maria. Your story is really interesting. Now, Jacob. Tell us about your best day out.

Jacob:

My best day out was last year. It was on my friend’s birthday. After we ate the birthday cake, we went to the disco. We danced to the music and played games. I liked the games because I won two prizes.

Reporter:

Thanks, Jacob. Now it’s your turn, Emma. Tell us about where you went on your best day out and what you did there.

Emma:

I like history a lot. Once my grandad took me to London, to the Natural History Museum. I saw the real houses where people lived hundreds of years ago. I also saw the cups and plates they used. My favourite part was women’s dresses and blouses. I’d like to go to that museum again.

Reporter:

Thank you, Emma. Thank you, boys and girls.

That’s all for now. Thanks for coming to our school station today. Next time we’ll speak about our favourite TV programmes. Good bye.

UNIT 3.

LESSON 1.

Exercise 2

Elfin:

What’s that box? The pictures are moving! Is it magic?

Liz:

Oh, no! It isn’t magic. It’s just a TV.

Elfin:

A TV? What are these people doing there in the box?

Mike:

It’s a film. This one is an action film. I love action films! They are so interesting!

Liz:

No, they aren’t. I don’t want to watch this one. I like music programmes. Look, there’s a good one on now. It’s called “Top of the Pops”.

Elfin:

The music is nice…

Mike:

Oh, no! Not now! This music programme is for girls! It’s boring! Let’s watch a sports programme. Oh, football! Hooray! Do you like football, Elfin?

Elfin:

Football? I …

Liz:

No, he doesn’t. I hate football. I don’t like sports programmes. Oh, look! “The Pink Panther”!

Elfin:

What funny pictures!

Mike:

It’s a cartoon.

Liz:

I like cartoons.

Mike:

Me too. Let’s watch this one. Oh, no! It’s over! Let’s watch something else.

Elfin:

Look! Look! Monsters! They are in the TV box!

Liz and Mike:

Don’t worry, Elfin! They are not real. It’s just a horror film.

LESSON 3.

Exercise 1b

Reporter:

Excuse me. I’m from the programme “Today”. Can I ask you some questions?

Mrs Read:

Yes, sure.

Reporter:

Do you often watch TV?

Mrs Read:

Mmmm. I think, yes.

Reporter:

A-ha. How often do you watch the news?

Mrs Read:

I always watch the news. My favourite programme is “The Eight o’clock News”. I watch it every evening.

Reporter:

I see… What about quiz shows?

Mrs Read:

Hm. I like quiz shows. I often watch them. My favourite is “Twenty Questions”. I watch it on Tuesdays, Thursdays and … Saturdays; and on Sundays I watch “Superquiz”.

Reporter:

I see. Do you watch comedies?

Mrs Read:

Comedies? Not often. I sometimes watch comedies on Saturday evening and on Sunday. Ah, last week I saw a very funny comedy called “The Toy”.

Reporter:

And what about cartoons?

Mrs Read:

Cartoons? My children watch cartoons. I rarely watch them. Maybe on Sunday, with my children.

Reporter:

Do you watch horror films?

Mrs Read:

Oh, no. I never watch horror films. I hate them!

Reporter:

Right! Thank you very much for your answers.

Mrs Read:

You’re welcome.

Reporter:

Goodbye.

Mrs Read:

Goodbye.

The policeman thought: ‘It’s a cat’ and went away. Then the dog found the box and started barking again. Moldy said: ‘Squeak-squeak. I’m a mouse.’ The policeman opened the box and saw Moldy. He took the camera, but Moldy ran away.
