Presents for the Natives

Miklukho-Maclay was a Russian scientist and traveller who lived more than a year on the island of New Guinea. The ship came to the island in the evening of a September day in 1871. Next morning the captain said to Maclay: “You are coming ashore. Why don’t you take more men with you? Have you a gun?” “I don’t need a gun. I have presents for the natives.” The island was beautiful. There were trees and flowers everywhere, and it was very hot. The sun shone brightly high above Maclay’s head. He walked for some time down a forest path. Suddenly he stopped because he heard a noise. A native stood in front of him. He looked at Maclay quickly and then started running away. Maclay ran after him. The native looked back and suddenly stopped. Maclay took out some presents and showed them to the man. The native took the presents and smiled. This was how Miklukho-Maclay met the first black man on the first day of his life in New Guinea. The native’s name was Tui. He was Maclay’s best friend all the time that the traveller lived on the island. On the first of October Maclay started out for a walk in the forest. He carried no gun. He had only a notebook and a pencil. In the forest, he met a native boy who saw him and ran away. Maclay heard the voices of men and women and the cries of children. Suddenly many men with spears in their hands came out. They stopped and looked at Maclay angrily. When he tried to say something, one of the men wanted to throw his spear at him. Maclay did not know a word of their language. He could not explain that he was their friend. He knew that he had to do something quickly. And a good idea came to him. He suddenly sat down on the ground and began to take off his shoes. Then he lay down, put a bag under his head and ... slept. The natives did nothing to him.

Exercise 2. Correct the following sentences according to the text “Presents for the Natives".

Write him a letter and answer his 3 questions. Write 80-100 words. Remember the rules of letter writing.

 Liam Killeen.

Liam Killeen is a rising star in cross-country mountain biking. He has raced since he was 12

and has had both successes and disappointments in that time. His worst moment so far was during a recent World Championship. His front tyre started to lose air in the last part of the race and he finished fourth. This was not the first time he'd been unlucky. In a previous race, it was raining heavily and he crashed his bike just minutes after the start.

He often gets nervous before a race but thinks that this is a good thing. ‘Nervous energy makes

you go faster and on the day, it’s all about winning. The important thing is to stay positive.’

Liam likes a hard race with steep climbs. ‘They make all the difference. You have to be really fit to get ahead’.

He also enjoys entering competitions at top levels as there are fewer riders in the race and this makes the start easier. ‘You can get into the front group more quickly.’

Liam has been chosen to go to the Olympic Games and one day he would like to win a medal.

‘I'm still quite young and expect to be riding until my mid-thirties so I’ve got enough time to achieve my dream. I know the Olympics are hard and I'll have to produce my best performance yet. But I feel confident.’

Liam trains for 30 hours a week - always outside - and he reaches speeds of 65 kph. He thinks

that cycling professionally is the best job in the world and would recommend it to anyone.

His advice to people starting to race is, ‘Be prepared for some hard work. If the training was

easy, it wouldn't make you faster’.

Промежуточная контрольная работа по английскому языку предполагает определение уровня подготовки обучающихся по предмету «Английский язык» на конец 3 четверти в 8 классе

Характеристика структуры и содержания работы

Работа состоит из 4 частей. Часть 1 содержит задания на определение уровня сформированности навыков аудиро-вания (понимание необходимой/запрашиваемой информации)

Часть 2 содержит задания на определение уровня сформированности навыков чтения с полным пониманием содержания текста и включает в себя задание на определение правдивы ли представленные предложения или нет, а также ответы на вопросы по содержанию текста. Часть 3 содержит задания на определение уровня сформированности лексико-грамма-тических навыков и включает задания на составление предложений с подбором слов for/since в соответствующем времени (Present Perfect) ; задания с подбором глаголов для выражения будущего времени (will, be going to, might); задания на перефразирование предложений в условные предложения первого типа с союзами; Часть 4 содержит задание на определение уровня сформированности навыков письменной речи. Написание неформального письма(другу)

Время выполнения работы 45 минут.

Система оценивания отдельных заданий и работы в целом За верный ответ в каждом пункте заданий работы учащийся получает 1 балл. За неверный ответ или его отсутствие выставляется 0 баллов. Максимальное количество баллов, которое может набрать обучающийся: За выполнение заданий 1 части работы – 6 баллов; За выполнение 2 части работы - 13 баллов. За выполнение 3 части работы – 16 баллов. За выполнение 4 части работы - 10 баллов.

Максимальное количество баллов, которое может набрать обучающийся за работу – 45 баллов. По итогам проверки работы выставляются тестовый балл и аттестационная отметка. Тестовый балл выставляется на основе суммы первичных баллов, полученных за выполнение каждого из заданий работы. Аттестационная отметка выставляется по пятибалльной шкале в соответствии с тестовым баллом.
