The development of capitalist relations, the conclusion of late marriages or their early dissolution, numerous repeated marriages, the commercial-brokerage side of pre-marital relations — these and many other reasons led to the marriage tradition and rituals developed over the nineteenth century. It has been preserved only in certain territories of England, and even then not completely.
The relevance of this work is determined by the study of wedding traditions of England and familiarization with the culture and history of the country. In practice, students also become familiar with the traditions of English weddings, which they did not even know about. The object of the study is the English traditions of a wedding celebration from ancient times to the present. The subject of the study is the marriage ceremony in England. The purpose of the work is to identify and substantiate the features and characteristics of new traditions and traditions that have been preserved from the last century.
To solve this goal, the following tasks were set: - to clarify the historical origin of the wedding traditions of England; reveal the traditions and features of English weddings; -identify preserved traditions from past centuries . Research methods: the solution of the tasks was carried out using a set of system-structural methods of analysis, as the main of which the structural-logical method was chosen to study the British traditions of wedding ceremonies. Methods of theoretical analysis of the literature on the research problem were also used. All this made it possible in combination with diagnostic methods (observation, introspection) to achieve the solution of the set tasks.

- The wedding ceremony of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip was held on November 20, 1947 in the presence of more than 2,000 guests at Westminster Abbey. The British Queen and her spouse, with whom she was destined to live together for 60 years, fell in love with each other while still teenagers.

For the English, the choice of the day and month of the wedding has long been very important. May was generally considered an unlucky month. The English in the course were the sayings: “marriages in May are unhappy”, “to marry in May - to suffer forever”. Marriage in Lent (spring) also foreshadowed failure. The most favorable time for weddings was considered the week after Trinity Day. Of all the days of the week, the most successful day for marriage is Wednesday.
Wedding usually took place between 8 am and 12 noon. Civil marriage was concluded from 8 am to 6 pm in the department of civil registration in the building of registration in the presence of an authorized person.
Where is the rite held?
Wedding in England consists of two parts: wedding breakfast and reception. Wedding breakfast is a ceremonial dinner immediately after marriage registration, it does not matter at 11 am this event will be or “at noon” is a full-fledged dinner, which is attended only by the closest relatives. Reception is already a buffet party at 19:00, no matter what you choose: hand buffet (only canapés) or fork buffet (when using cutlery), hot \ cold (a full-fledged banquet with a hot dish).

"Wedding train" - as one of the traditions.
A wedding procession goes to the church or as it was called the “wedding train”, which usually consists of Rolls-Royces or retro cars, limousines are very rarely chosen. Along the route of the wedding train, flowers were scattered: marsh iris, rosemary, marigolds.
The wedding train, in addition to the bride and groom, included their parents, bridesmaids (usually her sisters, close relatives and friends), as well as the sisters of the groom and his cronies, relatives and friends of the bride and the groom.
Who is present at the wedding?
- In addition to parents, whose presence was not obligatory, there were about 6 bridesmaids, and only one of them, the main one, was the main assistant to the ceremony. The groom's friend was supposed to take care of the bridesmaids at the time of the treat and be responsible for the pronounced toasts. The best men, as a rule, stood inside the church and asked each of the guests: “Bride or groom?” They put the friends of the bride to the left of the chapel, the friends of the groom — to the right. The father of the bride, if he was not present at the ceremony, could be replaced by her brother, a close relative or even a family friend.. The honorable role of the father planted was given to the groom's father. He led the bride to the altar, and also answered some questions of the priest during the wedding, and in principle managed the entire wedding.

We decided to reveal exactly those features that are still preserved in modern society. In the course of our research work, we decided to conduct a small workshop. “But what about weddings in Russia?”, - the first question that surfaced in our head. The funny thing is that we pronounced this thought out loud at the same time. Indeed, what is the difference between the weddings of England and Russia? We thought a little and gave only some signs that characterize the difference between the traditions of the two countries.
Comparative characteristic of traditions..
- 1. English women wear more modest wedding dresses than Russian women.
- 2. The outfits of the girlfriends of the English bride are paid by the mother of the girl. In Russia, taken quite differently.
- 3. In England, the bridesmaids should be six and the most important of them should be chosen, while in Russia the bridesmaid is only one.
- 4. The marriage ceremony in England is held in the church, and in Russia for this registry office.
- 5. Upon entering the church, an English couple must jump over the bench. Russians do not have this tradition.
- 6. During the ceremony in England there is a flower girl, in our country there is no such thing.
- 7. The tradition of a blue garter, a six-penny coin, something new, something old, and only English brides have to sew clothes from their wedding dress for the baptism of their first child.
- 8. In England, the bridegroom is waiting for his bride at the altar, while her father leads her to him to the music. In Russia, the bride and groom go together to marry.
- 9. In Russia, the bride throws a bouquet to her girlfriends, and in England, the tradition of throwing a shoe out of the car to the bridesmaids, and then, the shoe is thrown by the groom's friend.
- 10. Wedding cake. Another difference. In England, there are two of them - the bride and groom's cake, and in Russia only one.
- 11. Gifts to the British open only after the honeymoon, and in Russia there is no such tradition.

We also conducted a small survey among 20 students of the school. We ask you to familiarize yourself with the results of the survey.
Conclusion
- In the course of our work, we decided to find out if our classmates know about the wedding traditions of the country of the language being studied. With the help of the survey among students in grade 8, we found that peers do not know about the wedding ceremony in England and about some differences in the wedding traditions of England and Russia.
- Having studied the extensive material on the topic of work, comparing the features of wedding traditions in Russia and England, we have compiled a table of their similarities and differences.
- I believe that the goal of our work has been achieved, because in the course of the work we learned and compared what the wedding traditions in Russia and England are similar to and differ from, and also discovered a lot of new things.
- The material collected by us in the course of work can be used in English lessons at school, and it can also be useful to people who are interested in the traditions of Russia and England.
