The theme of the lesson: «St.Valentine’s Day» The aim of the lesson: to acquaint with traditions and customs of celebrating the holiday «St.Valentine’s Day». Objectives of the lesson: Educational:1) to give main information about the history and traditions of St.Valentine’s Day; 2) To make more active the vocabulary on theme St.Valentine’s Day; 3) To introduce the folklore and poetic heritage of English-speaking countries; Developing: 1) To develop creative fantasy, cognitive interest, their abilities in oral speech and reading; Bringing up: 1)To bring up pupil’s feelings of respect to culture and traditions of other countries; 2) To bring up feelings of mutual responsibility, children’s’ love to English language, love of music and working in groups. Expecting results: pupils can talk about traditions and customs of celebrating the holiday, can think creatively, work in groups, check own knowledge.

"ST. VALENTINE'S DAY"
“ There is a beautiful legend behind St.Valentine’s Day. Saint Valentine lived in Rome in the third century AD. At that time the Emperor of Rome was Claudius. He was trying to get more people to his army and passed a law which banned marriage. Valentine was a Christian priest who secretly married young couples. And soon he was arrested, imprisoned and beheaded. It was on the 14 th of February. Now it is a romantic day for lovers.”

Valentine traditions
2) Some people used to believe that if a woman saw a robin flying overhead on Valentine’s Day, it meant she would marry a sailor. If she a sparrow, she would marry a poor man and be very happy. If she saw a goldfinch, she would marry a millionaire.
1) Hundreds of years ago in England, many children dressed up as adults on Valentine’s Day. They went singing fro home to home.
