Порядок проведения и подведения итогов Олимпиады

1 Организационный момент

1.1 Приветствие. Вступительное слово преподавателя

1.2 Знакомство студентов с предлагаемыми им заданиями и

правилами заполнения Бланка ответов

Олимпиада по иностранному языку состоит из шести разделов (SECTIONS), включающих в себя 8 заданий (TASKS):

Раздел 1 Аудирование AUDIO PRACTICE

Раздел 2 Фонетика PHONETICS

Раздел 3 Лексика VOCABULARY

Раздел 4 Чтение READING

Раздел 5 Практическое использование лексико-грамматического

материала USE OF LANGUAGE

Раздел 6 Письмо WRITING

В разделе 1 AUDIO PRACTICE представлено одно задание (TASK 1): прослушать высказывания пяти людей о своих профессиях и определить профессию каждого, выбрав из четырёх предложенных вариантов один верный. Во время выполнения теста по аудированию после каждого высказывания даётся пауза для того, чтобы занести выбранный вариант ответа в Бланк ответов.

Каждый правильный ответ оценивается в один балл.

Максимальное количество баллов за выполнение задания раздела 1 AUDIO PRACTICE – 5.

Раздел 2 PHONETICS включает одно задание (TASK 2): в группе из четырёх слов выбрать одно, произношение гласного звука в котором отличается от произношения гласных в трёх других словах.

Максимальное количество баллов за выполнение задания раздела 2 PHONETICS – 5.

Раздел 3 VOCABULARY содержит одно лексическое задание (TASK 3): в группе из четырёх слов выбрать одно, которое отличается по какому-либо признаку от остальных трёх.

Максимальное количество баллов за выполнение задания раздела 3 VOCABULARY – 5.

В разделе 4 READING представлено одно задание (TASK 4): прочитать тексты о школах Великобритании и установить смысловое соответствие между ними и заданными вопросами. Для выполнения этого задания надо найти ключевые слова, фразы, названия, обратить внимание на синонимы.

Максимальное количество баллов за выполнение задания раздела 4 READING – 5.

Раздел 5 USE OF LANGUAGE содержит одно лексико-грамматическое задание (TASK 5), в котором предлагается выбрать правильный вариант ответа из четырёх предложенных с учётом лексической и грамматической сочетаемости слов в соответствии с коммуникативным намерением.

Максимальное количество баллов за выполнение заданий раздела 5 USE OF LANGUAGE – 5.

Раздел 6 WRITING – найти в тексте десять слов с орфографическими ошибками и записать их в правильном варианте в Бланк ответов. Слова можно вписывать в произвольном порядке.

Максимальное количество баллов за выполнение задания – 10.

Время на выполнение заданий Олимпиады – 60 минут.

3 Подведение итогов

Все ответы заносятся студентами в Бланк ответов (ANSWER SHEET) под соответствующими номерами. Победитель определяется в индивидуальном зачёте по наибольшей сумме набранных баллов. В случае равности баллов участники Олимпиады делят призовое место. Максимально возможный результат Олимпиады – 35 баллов.

Speaker 1

I like my job because I talk to people while I cut their hair. I ask them about their holidays and their families. It’s hard work as I have to stand all day.

Speaker 2

I like staying in bed in the morning. Some people say I don’t work hard because they think I’m always in bed. But when they are in bed I am at work. I have to study and read lots of books, but it’s what I want to do.

Speaker 3

I work for a large department store. I sell women’s clothes and shoes. It’s a good job because I like the other people who work here and the hours are good. Of course, I have to be polite to customers.

Speaker 4

I have to be very fit to do this job. It takes twelve hours to fly to Singapore and I do that twice a week. It’s a great job because I see so many different countries.

Speaker 5

I like it because I don’t have to work for anybody. I decide where to go and what hours I work. I usually drive my cab at night, because the streets are quiet and I can stop and have a cup of coffee and a sandwich when I want.

Read the information about schools of Great Britain and match each of the questions 16 – 20 to one of the texts A – E. Write your answers on your Answer Sheet.

GUIDE TO THE TOP LOCAL SCHOOLS

A Brimstage was founded in 1630. It offers a well-rounded education and places considerable emphasis on art and drama, with close links to local galleries and theatres. All pupils receive piano, violin or guitar lessons, and the school has a first-class choir.

B Originally located in Yorkshire, Thornton moved to its present place in 1968. There is a friendly, relaxed atmosphere at the school. Every pupil takes GCSE Spanish, French and German, and exchanged visits to Spain, France and Germany are frequently arranged.

C Eastport School was founded quite recently, but has consistently produced good overall results in all subjects. The primary section occupies a modern block that is a mile down the coast from the rest of the school, and just ten minutes walk away from Eastport beach.

D Founded in 1855, Oxton provides a ‘traditional’ education, with firm discipline at all ages. Admission is at 5, 11, 13 or into the sixth form. A high percentage of pupils obtain outstanding A Level results and go on to degree courses, many at Oxford or Cambridge.

E Raby has maintained high academic standards since it was founded in 1905, and has excellent study facilities including a well-stocked library. Clubs include astronomy, debating and creative writing. There is also a wide range of team sports, plus walking, canoeing, and climbing in nearby mountains.

A typical British family consists of mother, father and two children. But in __21__ years there have been many changes in family life. For example, the number of divorces has increased. That’s why 24% of British children live with only one parent, __22__ their mother.

The British child doesn’t have a lot of companionship from brothers and sisters, because the average family has only one or two children. __23__ British children live with their parents at least until they finish school at the age of 17 or 18. Then many go away to college, leaving their parents.

Older people take pride in their independence, enjoy their freedom and don’t want to be a burden to their children. The telephone, the car and the airplane keep them in __24__ contact even when they live in different parts of the country.

Members of family – grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins – keep in touch, but they see less of each other than they used __25__ . This is because people often move away from home town to work and so the family becomes scattered.
