Конспект урока английского языка в 10 классе по теме:

«Writing a letter of application». Spotlight 10.


Цель урока:

Образовательный аспект: ознакомить с особенностями написания делового письма.

Развивающий аспект: развивать память и навыки чтения и письменной речи, формировать умение выделять главное, логично выстраивать письменное высказывание.

Воспитательный аспект: повышать мотивацию к изучению языка, учить использовать речевые клише и формулы вежливости.

Задачи: 1) повторить некоторые особенности неофициального письма.

2) познакомить с особенностями официального письма.

3) ввести речевые клише делового стиля.

Ход урока:

Организационный момент и лексическая разминка.

T: Good morning! Sit down, please. How are you?

On the previous lessons we were talking about schooldays & work. Let’s revise some vocabulary. (Slide1- jobs)

Мотивация к учебной деятельности.

Do you want to have extra money?

Do you fancy getting a part-time job?

What will you do when you find a suitable advert? (Slide2-adverts)

Постановка учебной задачи.

I’ll show you some pictures to give you a hint about the topic of our today’s lesson. (Slide3-4CVs)

You are right, the topic of our today’s lesson is Writing a letter of application.


So, you’ll learn the following (Slide5):

-The style of the letter of application.

-The structure.

-The vocabulary.

-The content.

Can you guess what the style of this type of letter is? (Formal or informal?)

You are perfectly right, it’s formal.

Now let’s revise some features of informal letters and think of the features of formal ones. Please, click the link https://clck.ru/PAVJm and do the task. (Slide6 features)


And now I want to show you a short video about formal letters, please watch it and add two more features of formal letters. (Slide 7 video)

P.: These features are formal linkers and the use of full forms.


Now I want you to read the sample letter on p 54 and answer the questions:

  1. Who’s written the letter?

  2. Why has she written it?

  3. Who will read it?

  4. How does it begin/end?

Can you match the paragraphs with the headings (2b).

Key:

1 Opening remarks/ reason for writing.

2 Age/reason she wants the job

3 Qualifications/ experience/ qualities

4 When available for interview/ closing remarks.

And now comes the vocabulary. Please, refer back to the model on p 54 and find formal expressions to match the informal ones, do the task https://www.liveworksheets.com/az873248cf. (Slide 10). Repeat after me and try to remember.

Now imagine that you’re a student at York University in England. Read the rubric & find the key words. (Slide 11 advert) The pupils name the key words and the teacher marks them on the slide.

So, what information is appropriate for such letters? (Slide12)

Now try to write your own letters to the following advert (Slide12). Don’t forget about the key words. Students in pairs write one paragraph of the letter.

Check the following things:

  • You have painted a good picture of yourself

  • dates, qualifications, experience are consistent

  • There is no irrelevant information included

  • It is easy for the reader to follow.

(Slide13). Students read their answers.
